The continuous rigid frame bridge is a kind of statically indeterminate structures, whose temperature stress affected by the local temperature difference is difficult to calculate accurately. However, the study on the mode of temperature gradient is focused on the superstructure nowadays, and little attention has been paid to the high piers, which play a special part in the whole bridge. So it's important to research the temperature load and the thermal effect of the piers.The thermal effect includes two parts, the temperature difference of one year and the local temperature difference. The local temperature difference can be usually devided to three kinds. They are solar radiation, hydration heat of concrete and cold current effect. The tempreture difference of a year is simple, whice had been considered in engineering design from early period. Based on the field experiment, this paper focuses on the local temperature difference effect, studys and analysises the influence to the bridge girders and piers by solar radiation, hydration heat of concrete and cold current. It hopes that the results could be referenced by engineering design.Based on the field experiment in Lu'An-to-WuHan highway ChuanBanChong Bridge site in AnHui province, the paper obtains the data of the temperature field fluenced by hydration heat of concrete and cold current effect through four months' observation. According to the boundary condition data, the thermal analysis functions of the finite element program ANSYS is used to study and simulate the thermal distribution in the concrete box-girder and pier. According to overall results, a mode of temperature gradient of the pier is provided, which has combined the merits of both the criterion and the rule of thumb.The paper study on the method to determinate representative value of the temperature influence finally.
