As far as the present situation of hub transferring planning schemes, the evaluation and optimizing of transferring planning schemes is a weak point, especially without considering the background that china's big cities are now along the way of urban mass transit (UMT) network constructing. Lots of UMT transferring system planning schemes are based on rough evaluation and simple comparison. So, there are a series of inaccuracy elements which make it difficult to choose out the optimal decision. It is urgent to establish the scientific assessing method for UMT transferring planning schemes to achieve UMT hub's comprehensive functions under its network development. Nowadays, there is any mature assessment indexes system for UMT hub transferring planning schemes' optimal selection which can directly used for reference, and therefore it should consider the trend that UMT network is gradually formed and setup an evaluation index system which fits for the trend. What is more, fresh thinking should be proposed in the assessing process.The main work in this paper is as following: firstly, it establishes a valid scientific index system, in view of the former unscientific and incomplete quality in transitional optimal selection of the UMT hub transferring planning schemes. By means of studying the UMT hub transferring planning schemes' features, with the setup rules plus the function of UMT transferring system, 8 critical factors are selected as the indexes to establish the evaluation system. Then, the weight of indexes is obtained by using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. While the artificial effects are overweight in traditional assessment system, and inaccuracies as well as incompatibility exist between index and target, extension superiority evaluation method (ESEM) can overcome these drawbacks. By analyzing the application and principle, ESEM is introduced into optimizing transferring system planning schemes. It is demonstrated to be an excellent evaluation method by applying in optimal selection of Xujiahui UMT hub transferring planning schemes case and acquires the satisfied result.The practice proves that ESEM has wide application and fewer restrictions on index. ESEM resolved in compatible problem between index and method. ESEM is not merely applicable to scheme assessing of UMT transferring system, but also able to conquer the negative effects of traditional means. In attention, there is less artificially interpose in the evaluation procedure. In the end, expectation on further research and application in transport planning is provided.
