With the rapid development of container transport. the growing container throughput challenges the size and efficiency of port, As container yard is the main container stockpiling place, its efficiency impacts the front port logistics efficiency and the operational capacity directly. For the scale of the marshalling yard is limited to the space of port land, the back-up yard will growingly play an important role in the future.As a significant part of yard design, layout optimization is all-important to the overall logistics efficiency of yard. Reasonable layout of the yard has become an issues requiring urgent solution. This paper takes the container back-up yard as the research object, makes a research on the optimization of the yard layout.Papers will try to combine the traditional mathematical modeling methods with the modern virtual simulation technology, letting visual simulation make up for the abstract of mathematical modeling, using the results of simulation instead of traditional mathematical evaluation. Firstly, use mathematical models to get the optimum layout. Then build the simulation model of yard logistics system to evaluate the reasonableness of the layout design. Papers innovatively join the cost of building into the layout of function-area, making mathematical model more practical. Papers design the multi-objective programming model, including the minimum cost of logistics handling, the greatest degree of non-logistics association and the minimum cost of foundation. Papers choose genetic algorithm to solve the model. Further, papers study the logistics system simulation of yard, establish the simulation model, and set operating parameters and simulation model objectives.Finally papers apply the optimization and simulation methods to back-up yard of Lianyungang port. This example authenticates the scientifically of the mathematical model and the feasibility of simulation models, and evaluates that the yard layout is reasonable. The simulation model has a certain commonality for other yard logistics systems; the simulation result has a certain theoretical support for the actual design, the research ideas is a certain reference to other layout research.
