Belt conveyor is the most important transportation facility that carries dispel goods and isapplied in many fields. The driving drum, the important transmission part in belt conveyorsystem, is often under complex conditions and easily damaged when design parameters are notcorrect. And the capability and reliability of belt conveyor is mainly determined by theintensity and stiffness of the key parts. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the intensity andstiffness of the driving drum in order to design the light, stiff and high intensity one which canimprove the reliability and reduce the cost of the belt conveyor.The design of driving drum for belt conveyor is always the main problem of the factorieshome and abroad for a long time. However, the traditional design has many disadvantages. Inthe thesis, the driving drum and the other key parts are analyzed with finite element parametricanalysis method which is applied broadly nowadays.Firstly, the variety and structure of the driving drum for belt conveyor is introduced. Thestress condition of the driving drum is analyzed combined with the working principle of thebelt conveyor.Secondly, the establishment of three-dimensional entity modeling is the key phase of virtualprototype analysis. The quality of model is directly related to the precision of the results, eventhe correctness. Referring to a great deal of literature, the methods of establishing the dynamicsimulation of driving drum and the model of finite element are researched using the method ofthree-dimensional entity modeling. The virtual prototype of the driving drum for belt conveyoris established based on its working and laden condition. Besides these, the dynamic simulationand structural finite element of the driving drum are also analyzed respectively. Its structure isoptimized to reduce the cost on condition that intensity and stiffness is satisfied and theoptimized structure is reanalyzed.In addition, the analysis and design methods of the driving drum for belt conveyor are putforward adopting the Pro/Mechanism and Pro/Mechanica. Meanwhile, the models of dynamicsimulation and finite element are established and the intensity of the driving drum is calculated.The application shows that the analysis results are correct. After adopting this kind ofoptimized method, the intensity and stiffness of the products are satisfying. Furthermore, thismethod avoids the disadvantages occurring in the process of data-switch between differentsoftware and achieves the seamless integration of the three dimensional entity modeling andthe simulation analysis. It can improve computation efficiency, shorten design period and obtain high quality and reliability and it is the powerful tool for belt conveyer designoptimization.
