Connecting rod is the most important part of the diesel. Numerical simulation in connecting rod is a very significative research field. Since the shape, the boundary condition and the load of the connecting rod being very complex, to simulate the behavior of connecting rod well, a good computational method is very important.Main contents in the paper are as follow:(1)The 3-D model of the connecting rod is set up using the software Pro/E. Then the finite element model is set up through the software ANSYS. All these include chose and simplifications of the model, chose of the element, mesh of the gridding, chose of the calculation condition, and the establishment of boundary conditions, loads and the restrictions.(2)The correctness and feasibility of the FE model's boundary conditions are validated by analyzing the static property of the connecting rod.(3)The natural frequency of the original crankshaft is calculated. The mode frequency and mode shape in the result are close to the test results.(4)The raditional test method and the finite element method are compared through the result. And it is mentioned the problem when the dynamic response for crankshaft and the finite element analysis are used.This paper analyzed the performance of diesel crankshaft and the research for calculation method of crankshaft fatigue strength. It has important references for the calculation of the crankshaft fatigue strength.
