In this paper, through analyzing the contradictions between teachers and students under the mode of traditional education, points out the disadvantages of the mode of traditional education and the advantages of the mode of self-directed online learning. This paper also analyzes the theories and approaches on self-directed online learning, since the history of self-directed online learning is not long, no systemic theories as a guide. Our opinion is there are mainly three kinds of theories which are humanism study,constructivism and learning style, in this paper, these theories are also applied in the self-directed online learning of electricity.We inquired the real circumstance of the electricity learning of the sophomores, and then we know their problems during their learning process, we suggest that a new teaching mode that is the combination of traditional education and self-directed online learning mode can be applied in the teaching process. Students can choose either of these two modes, depending on themselves. This mode can achieve the optimal allocation of resources.Take humanistic view as a guide, we suggest that the learners should establish their own learning targets according to their own actual conditions. The teacher lists all the learning targets, and the students choose learning targets by themselves. This paper discusses how to establish their own learning targets and how to achieve their purpose during the process of electricity online learning. Our investigation shows that the ability of Information Retrieval is very important in self-directed online learning, so this paper also studies how to search knowledge they need.According to the real needs of electricity learning, especially the needs of learners, we designed and developed the framework and all modules of the online learning platform of electricity. On this platform, the learners can communicate through BBS,Blog and so on. The platform plays an important role in improving electricity learning, it is also efficient in promoting students'innovative and cooperative spirits and improving their information literacy and practical skills. The outcomes of the research and the online learning platform offer theoretical and practical instructions to learners who learn electricity.
