The Learning Commons has been put forward affected by the constructivism and connectivism theory. Some new requirements have been proposed for the developing learning commons with the the progress of innovative education theory. This essay mainly explores the the construction of learning commons in higher education.The definition of learning commons is defined in this paper:a student centered learning environment of coordination and interaction, including a three-dimensional structure based on entity environment construction, virtual environment construction and Managing environmental supporting. In order to arouse students’ sense of innovation, foster the innovation ability, and finally realize the knowledge sharing and creation, students could share experience with such-resource. This paper expounds the influence of constructivism theory, connectivism theory and innovation education on the development of learning commons.Through the detailed analysis of excellent examples at home and abroad, combining the field survey of university libraries, general space types, facilities, layout mode and future development trend of learning commons are summarized. On the basis of combining the theory of innovation education related design survey questionnaire, the author tries to gain type of space, facilities of learning commons arrangement of innovative education area, then summarize the construction modes of learning commons. This study researches from the relation of learning commons and other spaces, and ways of reorganization and expansion in the aspect of entire library. It also summarizes the notion, facilities, plan characteristics, layout, and service condition of the typical functional space in the aspect of space composition. The referenced matching of each functional space in learning commons in higher education libraries has been proposed based on activity relationship of the indoor space, design of flow line, combining form of space combination in the aspect of learning commons design.The author expects that some new thoughts and ways could be proposed for the design of high education libraries, and help the construction of learning commons, to extend the functions of university library space and to increase the efficiency of libraries.
