Research On The Connection Between The Beijing Section Of The Great Wall And Its Natural Geographical Environment

The Great Wall in every section represents the typical characteristic of the local geographical environment for the reason that the latter was taken into great consideration in the process of building the Great Wall. The military facilities, such as the walls, checkpoints and strongholds of the Great Wall, relate closely to the mountains, rivers, natural vegetation and soil alongside. However, with the rapid development of modernization and the utilization of tourism resources of the Great Wall, the local geographical environment nearby needs more attention and protection, which is faced with the serious problem of how to protect and restore the Great Wall effectively.Concentrating on the Beijing section of the Great Wall, this paper is mainly about the geographical environment in Beijing and its significant impact on the location, direction and the arrangement , style and material of every architectural element. What's more, it discusses about some practical experience of building this section, and analyzes the environmental problems we are facing, then puts forward some strategies to protect and restore the Great Wall. It is of great significance for the protection of the historical and cultural heritage and the use of tourism resources.This paper contains the following: First, it obtains the history of building the Great Wall in Beijing and some relevant information by referring to some records or materials and doing research here, finding the significant function of researching and some shortcomings that still exist.Then it analyzes the typical features of local geographical environment in Beijing and its impact on the location and direction of the Great Wall.Furthermore, it presents the problems of the surrounding environment of the Beijing section, and points out the bad influence it brings because of some problems in the process of modernization and unwise utilization of tourism material. According to the problems, it expatiates on the point that protecting the natural geographical environment is the precondition of utilizing the tourism material of the Great Wall. That means we not only should strengthen the protection of the Great Wall itself, but also should concern about the protection of the natural geographical environment. Only in this way can the unique cultural and scientific value of the Beijing section of the Great Wall be incarnated better.
