Space Programming On Urban Renewal Of Historic Industrial Area

North guishan mountain area located in Wuhan City centre, has a profound historical and cultural background of industry.Not only here is the birthplace of Wuhan modern industry, once existed the Hanyang iron factory (also known as Han Ye Ping steel joint venture) which enormously impacted the development history on Chinese modern industry. But also, its modern industrial development to Wuhan is significant, and a number of factories have settled down here after the liberation. However, with the readjusting of the urban industrial structure, changing of urban form and the changes of transportation mode, its development is confronting with a considerable obstacle as an industry-led regional in the urban contemporary background of rapid development, and gradually decline. And its status constrained the city's economic, environmental, social development and various undertakings to some extent.On using spot survey, documentation, questionnaire inspection and other methods, the author researched the old industrial district in Wuhan north guishan mountain area and relevant examples of renewal. And then, analysis and synthesis results from the survey have been coming out by used historical interpretation, questionnaire analysis and relevant comparison survey and other methods. Attempt to locate the strategy of urban space renewal on the background of extend industrial history context and geographical characteristics, and then derive the concept of old industrial buildings protecting and renewal methods.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter, including study background, purpose, significance, past study and practice, the concepts and scope defining, content and method. Especially, on mention the concepts and scope defining from two sides of concepts signification and the site of this study.The second chapter of urban space investigation, derive from a comprehensive analysis on site background, regional and industrial characteristics, problems and the reasons, the potential value comes to being. The third chapter of positioning for further development, including location analysis, urban socio-economic development context, the public interest survey analysis and the macro positioning in further development. Base on the analysis, this section emphasizing the re-positioning in the development, to be as the foundation of the space programming.Chapter IV of the space plan on urban renewal, major in renewal goals and principles, idea of planning, project planning and the concept of renewal for old industrial buildings.The fifth chapter of conclusion includes the result of this study, planning evaluation, and follow-up on recommendations.
