In recent years, with the fast development of economics and the ever-increasing of the needs of transportation, it is critical to build the urban traffic system. Being the best method to solve transportation problems, the Intelligent Transportation System was taken into account widely. The basic parameter of transportation system is the location information of vehicle, so to obtain the high-precision location information plays an important part in the Intelligent Transportation System. In this thesis, it is the main objective to find a convenient and low cost way to acquire dynamic, high-precision, real-time location information for the intelligent transportation system. This paper is studied based on differential GPS (DGPS).Firstly, the principle of the Global Position Systems is introduced and the differential GPS data format is studied. Then, the wireless network communication process is analyzed. Finally, a high-precision location information acquisition system is built. The system consists of base stations, GPRS data communication link, and mobile user terminals. Differential correction data was sent from the base station to user through GPRS mobile data communications platform, and the user modifies the common GPS position and makes the location information more accurate.VC++ programming tools is used to accomplish the system, which is used to receive data, process data, transmit data, and so on; the GPRS is used to transmit the GPS position in real-time. In the experiment, the comparison between the locations of the DGPS receiver and the common GPS receiver shows that differential correction can make the accuracy of position greatly better; it proved that the experiment is feasible. We can acquire high-accuracy position with the cheap GPS Receiver by using of the new technology. The experiments show that the high-accuracy, dynamic, real-time, convenient, low-cost and large-area characteristics are achievable.In short, the technology of acquiring high-precision location information for the intelligent transportation system is studied deeply in this paper, and an effective application management system is developed. The system is practical and meaningful for the traffic safety. The research has been applied in the project of "Jilin Ship Dynamic Monitoring System", which is undertaken by the Institute of satellite navigation, and the results show that the proposed technology is efficient and practical.
