The Research On The Applicable Conditions And The Implementation Key Factors For BRT

Nowadays, with the accelerated development of urbanization in our country, the urban traffic problem is becoming severe. "Bus Priority" Strategy for the development has became the inevitable choice for large and medium-sized cities. After the construction of Urban Rail Transit has encountered all sorts of difficulties and obstacles, BRT is developed rapidly and becoming more and more popular with its characteristics of high speed, great capacity, low construction cost and operation cost. According to the complexions mentioned above, this paper has studied the Applicable Conditions, Effective Strategies and Key factors leading to its Implementation Success for BRT, and attempts to provide a useful reference for cities in where BRT is going to be constructed or being constructing.At first, this thesis analyses the necessity and the difficulties of developing BRT in our county, on the background of the current status of China's urban traffic. Then it discusses the performance characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of BRT as well as illuminates its contribution to sustainable development on the basis of the introduction of BRT system structure. Next, the thesis work puts emphasis upon the analysis of basic applicable conditions of BRT, based on four aspects which are passenger traffic demand, road conditions, travel speed, the size and economic strength of the cities. Meanwhile, the analysis of effective strategy for developing BRT in several cities with different scales under the condition of having subway or not is performed from two different perspectives. One of the perspectives is the relationship among BRT, ordinary bus and rail transit, the other is the experiences of development which summed up form Beijing, Hangzhou and Changzhou. Finally, the thesis discusses the key factors leading to its implementation success for BRT. It points out the number ceiling of the bus lines which could be set within the BRT bus lane, the best way to arrange the bus lane, and the most sensible strategies about management, fare and marketing.
