This article explores the application of CATIA product engineering optimizer in steering column upper bearing design. The correctness of rolling bearing design plays a foundation impact roll for its function, life cycle and reliability,hence it will affect on the whole steering column performance and economical concerns. For this reason, it requests the design engineer to select the best solution from all of the potential concepts.With the uncertainty of structural variables for steering column upper bearing, utilizing optimization theory, the rolling bearing design target functions and constrains are described. Combining with engineering software optimization function, the structural variables best value are found.The maximum dynamic load rating of deep groove ball bearing is 3800 N.Through 7 physical tests:1. Rotational effort-prior to upper bearing durability 2. Shaft looseness in axial direction-prior to upper bearing durability3. Shaft looseness in radial direction-prior to upper bearing durability4. Steering column upper bearing durability test5. Rotational effort-post to upper bearing durability6. Shaft looseness in axial direction-post to upper bearing durability7. Shaft looseness in radial direction-post to upper bearing durability the optimization result are proved right. It consists the whole engineering design process, and provides contribution to the project.
