Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) is an effective way to control the dust of the air. It is widely used in electric power plants, cement and metallurgy because of its high efficiency and stable operation. Powering modes of ESP have DC energization , intermittent energization or repetitive pulse energization. Most of the ESP uses DC energization. But a lot of researches prove that ESP has a better operation performance at pulse energization than at DC energization. The energy consumption at pulse energization is only 1/5-1/2 of DC energization due to that pulse energization can effectively control back corona which reduces the ESP efficiency. So it is interesting to investigate the ESP with pulse energization. This paper investigates the ESP with pulse energization. It contents simulation of three pulse circuits, calculation of voltage-current character and energy consumption analysis of the ESP at a power plant. From the simulation, it is concluded that full-bridge circuit can produce higher voltage than that of the half-bridge circuit. The curves of voltage-current character and voltage-resistance character are calculated in the working mode of ESP with considerations to the influence of temperature, pressure and cathode radius to voltage-current character. By analyzing the ESP data in K power plant, it is concluded that there is middle level relativity between the load of generator and the energy consumption of ESP.
