Industry is vital part of China's economic growth, industrial building is the infrastructure of manufacturing production. For historical reasons, most industry buildings are reinforced concrete structure, and the majority of them have served for many years, which have been aging with some deficiencies. How to settle down these deficiencies in right way will exert an important and far-reaching influence on national economy.Using a single storey reinforced concrete industry building as an example, this paper introduces the features of seismic damage, evaluation procedures and commonly used retrofit methods of reinforced concrete industrial buildings. It also presents in details the theory, procedures of nonlinear static analysis Push-over and the capacity spectrum methods to calculate performance point mentioned in ATC-40.Finite element software Sap2000 is used to compare the seismic response after replacing light-weight steel roof truss. The objective displacement is calculated from nonlinear static analysis on the transverse structure, which has been compared with those from time history method. Nonlinear static analysis provides a convenient method to evaluate structure's nonlinear behavior.Considering for the particularity of Shanghai ground, the paper compares seismic response of reinforced concrete industry building on different kinds of ground. The effect of adding steel dampers and viscous dampers to the longitudinal structure is analyzed. In the last part of the paper, the frequency of this industrial building measuring by seismic monitor is listed. The conclusion getting from this paper can provide some helpful experience to relevant project, especially to the seismic evaluation and retrofit of single storey reinforced concrete industrial buildings.
