Studying the characteristics of external insulation discharge of high-voltage electric equipment with ultraviolet imaging technology has important scientific significances and practical value for preventing external insulation accidents and ensuring the safe and stable operation of electric system. By combining the"ultraviolet imaging detection and failure diagnosis of high-voltage electric equipment", a technological project of Hebei Super-voltage Company, this paper has simulated and compared the external insulation defect discharge of various types of electric equipment at the lab, obtained plentiful valuable ultraviolet spectrums of discharge, analyzed and concluded the reasons for and characteristics of external insulation discharge of electric equipment, as well as various factors influencing discharge strength. Meanwhile, by making use of image processing theory, the paper has effectively eliminated the interference of noises in ultraviolet images, and extracted the discharge zone in ultraviolet images. Finally, the paper has adopted Delphi language and SQL Server 2000 database to establish ultraviolet testing information management system, and provided technical supports for the state management of the ultraviolet testing of high-voltage electric equipment.
