With the increasing span, form of diversification, modeling complexity of the structure, the joints among members are becoming increasingly diversified. In multitudinous joint forms, such as welded spherical joint, bolted spherical joint, steel plate welded joint, cast steel joint and so on, Cast steel joint has even material and same mechanical property in different directions as well as no residual stress, so the kind of joint form can be nimbly diverse designed and its mechanical properties is safe and reliable . Nowadays cast steel joint is applied gradually in the more and more spatial structures.At present, there isn't a set of mature design method for cast steel joint in our country. In the project we use the cast steel joint in accordance with the special research of every cast steel joint. That is to say, for every cast steel joint in the practical project we combine the finite element theoretical analysis with experimental results to guarantee its security. Cast steel joints in the overall steel structure mechanics performance analysis are generally regarded as rigid-joints, neglecting the influence of the cast steel joint rigid area.Guangzhou Opera House multi-function hall, which has complex space structure, large main cast steel joint and diversity perspective bar space, is one of the most complex structures in the current steel structure industry. With regard to the specific configuration of the structure, this paper presents the mechanical property analysis of the complex joints. Furthermore, based on the research of joints, we analyze the mechanical properties of the overall steel structure with considering the influence of joint rigid zone.The main works and research results are as follows:(1) The method of neglecting cast steel joint rigid area influence, the finite element entity simulation method, and the rigid material method are respectively employed to analyze the cast steel joints in the Guangzhou Opera House multi-function hall. The results of the analysis show that: the flexural stiffness in the branch plane will be computed too low if ignoring the influence of the rigid zones. Although the finite element method can simulate every mechanical property of cast steel joints accurately, it is difficult to realize and to popularize the mechanical analysis of overall steel structure. Rigid material method can be adopted to get perfect result, and it is easier to realize the structural analysis too.(2) Many cast steel joints simulation computation indicated that, with rigid material method ,the element stiffness inside of the cast steel joint rigid area is 10 times much more than which is outside of that in the Guangzhou Opera House multi-function hall.(3) The method of neglecting cast steel joint rigid area and the rigid material method are separately applied to analyze the mechanical properties of the Guangzhou Opera House multi-function hall overall steel structure, and the analysis results are compared with the scene actual results. It shows that: the difference is much large between the results calculated by the method of neglecting cast steel joint rigid area influence and the test results obtained in the scene, and the results obtained by the rigid material method tally with the scene actual test results better.(4) For the overall steel structure mechanical analysis of Guangzhou Opera House multi-function hall, the rigid material method used in the cast steel joint rigid area procession can get better calculation results, and the method is feasible.
