As the most initial human settlements, countryside has always played a significant role, like city, in the process of social transition. Through it is the integral part of society, Chinese countryside has never been treated equally as city. As the development of economic globalization, integration and the process of urbanization in nowadays, in sharp contrast with the rapid changing of urban construction day by day, the countryside is still poverty-stricken and backward. In order to solving rural problems , narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas, improving farmers' living standards, the slogan of "Building a New Socialist Countryside " was raised in the Fifth Plenary Session of the 16th CPC Central Committee. "New Countryside" becomes a highlighted terms in news broadcasting at a time.This thesis is written based on the above background. The author carried on a calm and rational thought on the enormous theoretical guidance and exuberant constructing practices. Fixing eyes upon "constituting rural characteristic essential elements", this thesis analyzes and researches contemporary countryside. It defines the cause of research and some relevant conceptions, and after fixing the research approaches, it substantially explores the goal and significance of realizing this research.First of all, the author sums up plenty of relevant researches domestically or aboard, ( including rural settlement, constituting rural characteristic essential elements, the theories and practices of rural construction and so on), and get some helpful inspirations. Secondly, the author begins with constituting rural characteristic essential elements, then analyzes traditional and contemporary country. Such as defining four essential elements-natural elements, social elements, humane elements and functional elements, combing their evolution. The fourth chapter of this article concludes the rural types which based on the characteristic essential factor, then propose the reconstruction idea of new countryside, and perfonn the concrete applications through the expression of characteristic essential factor. At last, The article summarizes several kind of wrong patterns which appears in the new rural reconstruction, and forecasts the 21st century countrysides reconstruction.This thesis aims at providing ideas and guidance for the planning and construction of "New Countryside ".
