In this paper, the large-scale finite element analysis software ANSYS10.0/LS-DYNA is used to do 3D numerical simulation of the whole process of high speed metal projectile penetrating homogenous steel target and half-immensity concretes target which based on the 100mm gas gun, and then comparison analyses overload characteristics of projectile's penetration. Verify the effective of finite element analysis, and give reference to overload characteristics and design of initiator.First, the thesis state the domestic and abroad research status of overload and the practicability and validity of gas gun which used in the research overload characteristics of projectile. Based on this, makes the improvement to the gas gun and give a new type air gun's structure and principle. Introduced ANSYS10.0/LS-DYNA's main algorithm used in penetration.In Chapter 3, the 3D numerical simulations of process of vertical and fastigiated penetration of metal projectile to steel target are done with the nonlinear dynamic analysis software ANSYS10.0-LS-DYNA. Bring forward simplified models and supposition of penetration, describe the whole process particularly and give images of penetration at different time. We state the particular perforation process of projectile-target system and study the infection of penetration performance and overload characteristics of the projectile when we change invade parameters such as velocity, material, attacking angle and target thickness. In Chapter 4, the 3D numerical simulations of process of penetration of metal projectile to the half-immensity concrete target is done and state the particular perforation process of projectile-target system and study the infection of the penetration performance and the overload characteristics of projectile when we change invade parameters such as velocity, attacking angle and target thickness. In Chapter 5, the numerical simulations of the overload characteristics of the initiator which put in the hollow metal projectile are searched with the nonlinear dynamic analysis software ANSYS10.0-LS-DYNA. And study the infection of overload characteristics of projectile and initiator when we change invade parameters such as velocity and target thickness, get the contrast between them. The whole thesis verifies the effective and veracity of the large-scale finite element analysis software ANSYS10.0/LS-DYNA used in numerical simulation of the penetration and overload characteristics with large amount of examples.Finally, summarize the deficiency which exists in the simulation process and the research work, and then give some propose on the future work.
