The capacity of product innovative design has become the primary factor to success for an enterprise and even a nation in the global competition. Only according to the characteristics of green products when planning and designing products at the design stage, namely green design, can we guarantee the 'green' performance of products. But at present green design methods mostly focus on the improvement of existing or similar products, it is absolutely necessary to carry out research on method of product Eco-innovative Design. It can meet the requirements of relevant laws and regulations, and break green trade barriers.In this paper, TRIZ innovative theory and gene engineering based on product virtual gene are introduced into Eco-innovative Design. Method of Eco-innovative Design based on TRIZ and virtual gene is developed for whole life cycle. The method of simplified life cycle assessment to analyze environmental factors during life cycle is given to analyze the conflict between environmental attributes and product performance, and confirm eco-innovative objectives. According to new Matrix 2003 and inventive principle table, innovative principle is deduced based on statistics principle to support Eco-innovative Design. With the similarity between living beings' evolution and products' development, gene engineering techniques have been introduced into product Eco-innovative Design. This paper introduces the method for deducing the virtual chromosomes, defines virtual genes, develops the methods for identifying virtual genes from their virtual chromosome, creating virtual genome maps and deriving mapping network between the virtual genes and the performances of a product, and develops the method for reforming virtual genes for product innovation using genetic engineering techniques. Method of Eco-innovative Design assessment based on fussy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) is given to assess product and feed back design. As an example, the process of refrigerator eco-innovative design is presented to 'clone' and 'innovate' new product according to the above method.
