The motorcycle frame is the main part of the motorcycle. Frame structure directly affects the functions, such as comfort and safety. Engine is another key component of the motorcycle. We need to study the change of the frame characteristics when the engine is added to frame in different ways, because this is very important to decide the reasonable way and location for the engine. In this paper, a three dimensional model is firstly set up by using the UG software. This model is introducing into the MSC.PATRAN and I choose to build the solid finite element model of the frame. After we get the model, we carry out the model analysis on it and abstract the first 10 mode that are not the body mode. In order to verify the accuracy of the model, we also carry out experiment analysis of the frame. After comparing the two results, we find the error is under5%. This means that the model is accurate enough and can be used.It is very important to analyze the change of the characteristics of the frame after adding the engine. In this paper, two conditions are researched: combining the two components by joints and elastic suspension. Under the first condition, the natural frequencies increase; under the second condition, the natural frequencies decrease sharply. The frequency of the first condition is larger than the second one. Under the second condition, the stress of the frame is smaller and the strength of the frame is safer; the stiffness increases.Under the second condition, we also study the effects of the engine in different locations mounting on the fame characteristics. After changing the location, the vibration model changes, the frequency decreases; the stress on the frame becomes smaller, the strength of the frame increases, but the stiffness decreases.
