Truss-model theories have been applied to analyze the shear behaviour of rectangular RC frame columns. Experimental results showed that the shear strength of RC columns under skewed load complied with the ellipse-rule, so the existing theories couldn't be used directly. It's necessary to build a new theoretical model to caculate the shear strength of columns under skewed horizontal load.In this paper, the shear mechanism of RC member was analyzed, and the existing shear theories were compared. A new spatial truss-arch model was built with the knowledge of mechanics and tensor. This model successfully solved the problem of strength reduction of concrete. It could be use to calculate the shear strength of columns under skewed load. Additionally, An ANSYS model of columns was built to do finite elements analysis.Compared with the experimental results, the formula derived from spatial truss-arch model was proved to be safe and reliable. So, it could be applied to the desigh of RC frame columns under skewed load.
