Study On Social And Economic Sustainability Of The Eco-village Abroad

As a result of city infinite sprawls, environmental pollution, resources depletion, and social loneliness, Eco-village movement was initiated in 1960's as a new kind of solution. Under the direction of holistic principle, eco-villages are the new life mode, which contains sustainable developments on ecological, social and Economical aspects. Eco-village integrates both natural technologies and modern ecological technologies, adopts the economic self–suffice mode, advocate the public participation, and utilizes the whole system concept of environment design, social skills and energy technologies.The dissertation conducts a wide-scale study covering the subjects of society, ecology, economics, architecture and urban design, which is freed from the limitation of design theory. Comparing with the eco-villages of different periods and different regions and analyzing the sustainable aspects in social and economical development, it will fill the blank in our research on architecture and other fields and play an important role in guiding our construction on new country and urban eco-community.The dissertation provides the historical developments of eco-villages and research conditions, then analyze its holistic design and theories. Through the integrated study of ecological and circular economic, it discusses the economical sustainability of the eco-village. And on the base of analyzing and comparing large number of eco-villages, it gets the methods to keep the economic self–suffice. In the research of social sustainability, the dissertation analyzes the theory involved, explains the core content---public participation, and illustrates how architecture design enhances the sense of communal adscription. Finally, based on the development condition in China, it compares with eco-village abroad, opens out the revelation, forecasts the its developing possibilities in China.
