Under the inference of"Development is of unyielding principle", China's economy has stepped on a journey of rapid developments, its strengths have been enhanced continuously; urban construction has altered from day to day.However, accompanied arrival is the abandoning of"something invisible"during the rapid urbanization of many major cities. -- the similitude of urban appearances behind the modernized coating, the flaw of civic culture and spirit, the lost of the folk art, and etc. -- All these have sounded an alarm for the city superintendents.Based on concepts of waterfront city, this research launches the discussion focusing on the increasing flaw of the non-material elements in the molding of cityscape.The purpose of the research aims at attributing and integrating the various non-material elements of urban development, in order to exert the mien from the past into the future molding of urbanscape, and to some extent, to guide urban developments.This study adopts the synthesis of various methods, especially historical research, comparison and example illustration methodologies.This research process combines urban design and urban programming theories, and carries science classification in non-material elements in the cityscape molding. Integrating with waterfront elements, import into urban programming, in order to have "INIT" effect to the future cityscape molding schemes.
