With the development of automobiles, materials and other industrial sectors, thedemand of metallographic microscope is growing significantly, especially the automaticmetallographic microscope which has high magnification and high degree of automa-tion. In particular, the rapid development of the microelectronics industry needs morehigh-rate ?at-field microscopes to supporting the production of chips. So the ordinarystereoscope microscope could not meet the application requirements. However, thereis few domestic manufacturers to development and produce such kind of high-end mi-croscope. To this end, we developed new type of intelligent integrated optoelectronicdevice, which integrates optical, mechanics, electron and computer technology. Thatis the Automatic Right Metallographic Microscope.Some certain key technologies in the process of developing automatic right metal-lographic microscope have been studied in this paper as following:1. The movement processes of the zoom group and the compensation group arecalculated in detail. The groups mentioned above are in two-movement componentscontinuous zoom optical system with machinery compensation. One kind of two-movement components continuous optical zoom system is designed by the Opticamsoftware. The process of the system establishment, the system analysis, the compen-sation of image plane and optimization design and precision analysis of the cam curveare also explained in detail.2. Traditional dimming circuit of the optical instrument is analyzed, and itsshortcoming is pointed. A digital dimming device based on Atmega8 microcontrolleris provided. It has the features of simple electric circuit, output light intensity sta-bility, brightness digital linear regulator and memory function etc. It can also realizeautomatic dimming under the control of computer.3. The deficiencies of the traditional objective lens with spring and the existingpatent structure are pointed out. A new device of objective lens with confocal distanceadjustable is proposed directly. The structure principle, the process of it's functionrealization and the adjustment methods are description in detail.4. Starting from the definition of virtual assembly, combining with author's ex-ploration and practice in research and development of special optical instrument, theconcept and content of virtual optical assembly is proposed. The importance of virtualoptical assembly in special optical instrument research and development is described.The application of virtual optical assembly is explained separately with examples ofmetallographic microscope and other optical system which has high-precision require-ments. The automatic right metallographic microscope which with video and digital isdeveloped during the study of this topic. And it has been put into mass production.The quality and performance of the product is equally with foreign metallographicmicroscope. But it has a higher performance-to-price ratio, so there is a better marketprospects.
