At present, the portal frame structure with light steel has been widely used with less consumption of steel, faster construction speed and better benefit economy with comparison to the traditional one. Frequently, every element of portal frame structures with light steel may be jointed with others out of its plane as a three-dimension bearing system in the actual structures. But now, analysis of portal frame structures mainly adopts the plane frame model, therefore it is impossible to involve the space characteristics of structures. Thus, with the aim of making the design and application of this structure to be scientific and economical, the space work of portal frame structures with light steel is analyze (?) under vertical loads and horizontal loads, and the select of the members that influenced the space work of the structures are also performed in this paper.In this paper, the finite element software SAP2000 is selected for ewuivalent three dimensional analysis of the gumnasium structure in order to analyze the space work of portal frame structure with light steel when under vertical load. Meanwhile, the scene static test is carried out to explore the static capacity of the gumnasium structure under vertical load. At last, the space work of portal frame structure with light steel under vertical load is preliminarily researched by compared with results of the static test and SAP2000 calculation. As the SAP2000 three-dimension model calculation corresponds well with static test results, the space work should be considered when the portal frame structures with light steel are under vertical load. Thus, the finite element softeware calculation contrasted with test results can be referred as practical approaches for portal frame structure and other structures.The equivalent three dimensional analysis of one-stpry manufacturing house under horizontal loads is also carried out to explore the space work of portal frame structure with light steel. And the influence of longitudinal connecting bars on the space work is analyzed in this paper. Then the optimization design about longitudinal bars connecting is worked out and lay a solid foundation for further rescarch work.
