Software Development On Design Flood Calculation In Small Catchment

Design flood is an important basis of plan, design and construction in hydraulic and hydroelectric engineering. The calculation of design flood in small catchment has been widely applied in the field of plan and design in middle and small type of hydraulic engineering, traffic, bridge, farmland, urban, drainage etc.Because of the shortage of observed hydrologic data, the design flood is calculated according to the storm data in small catchment. Because of so many parameters and complicated calculation, the precision of calculated results and work efficiency have been influenced.Based on analysing the calculation theory of design flood in small catchment , the software of design flood calculation according to the calculation method gived in《Practical Manual for Estimating Flood Strom applied in Shanxi Province》was developed with VB. The traditional calculation method is combined with computer technology and automatic computation.The software development mainly includes parameter query, software structural design, functional design, interface design etc. Automatic guidance of calculation is realized through MDI form in VB without the complicated calculating process. The software realizes the outputting results of MSFlexGrid with table in VB. The system can call the important document involving figures through scanning pictures. The users can get the parameters by clicking the command keys. The software system may display the results on the interface with curve. Runoff yield histogram can be displayed in the process of runoff yield calculation. This function is also used in the process of concentration calculation. Favorable expandability of software is developed. The system can calculate the design flood at each frequency through selecting the reasonable parameter.the design flood of Longfeng Reservoir has been calculated by the software and the operating steps have been introduced with the interfaces of calculating process. In the end, The calculated results was compared with hand calculated results according to《Practical Manual for Estimating Flood Strom applied in Shanxi Province》.The system can calculate directly not only the peak discharge of design flood but also the design flood hydrograph . With reasonable calculated results , simple methods and easy operation, prominently improving the computational efficiency ,it can be used as a basic tool of hydrologists.The innovation of this selected topic is :A new computation way of design flood in small catchment is realized through software development with VB language.
