At present, more than 50 countries in the world have entered the "aging population " countries, mainly Europe and the United States and other developed countries, from the mid-1970s, the "aging population" problem has been related to the Asia-Pacific region.China has entered the "aging population country" , at the end of 2005, China's 60-year-old or elder population nearly 144 million, the proportion is 11% of the total population. China has the largest elders in the world. How to solve their endowment and quality of life are facing the various cities in China and a major social problem.With the ageing population's increase, a certain period in the future, the traditional family with "family old-age provided" will be changed to "social old-age provided". The elderly apartment, residence and the elderly public buildings will also be gradually increased. Throughout the past 10 years China's construction of the elderly buildings, has attained a lot of results, but with the trend of increasing ageing population and the large number of elderly people, it is still not commensurate, even some of the research results there are still some questionable place.The purpose of the study of urban elderly buildings is to study the relevant information, as well as site visits and exchange news between users and architects and collect different types, characteristics, the use information of elderly building, and sum up the urban elderly building' s type, space layout, characteristics, and so on, reveal the elderly building' s surface configuration with the relation of deep-seated factors influence and the interaction between law and mechanisms, propose the elderly building' s construction mechanism and mode of development proposals.When the author studied the elderly building, on the one hand, he studies the elderly physiological function, psychology, behavior characteristics and the space of living and production; on the other hand, he places the elderly in a broader social context, in the larger scope of time and space to explore the elderly with the living environment of the interaction between.In study method the author used a variety of methods of Gerontology, urban sociology, environmental psychology, the Habitat and Environmental Science and Community Planning and Design and other theories. In the process, the author step-by-step blended the several theories, and in the same time the author taked into account the broader coverage of this thesis, so he studied and explored as far as possible, and distinguished different issues to deal with, selective analysis.From the social point of view, the system study of urban elderly architecture, we will know older persons' living environment from a broader and more in-depth understanding brought about by the ageing population, as well as the effect on economic, social and cultural development due to the elderly population growth. It is of great significance and application prospects to the Government to formulate relevant policies and scientific and rational exploitation of the elderly buildings, improve the quality of life of older persons, and to achieve "healthy ageing" .
