| The stability of embankments and slopes is one of the most important engineering problems in the construction of interstate expressways. Bozhou-Fuyang interstate expressway, simplified as 'BoFu expressway' hereafter, is a key project of the '10th Five Years plan' of Anhui Province. The padding ground of the embankments of this mentioned expressway composes mainly of silt. However, as well known silt has some unfavorable properties, which will generate some negative effects or even dramatic troubles in some cases in the constructions of the expressway, railway, industry, and civil architectures. Consequently, how to make use of the silt, and at the same time, to retain the embankments and slopes stable, are becoming very essential problems in related engineering constructions. For that, conducting some analyses and studies on the stability of embankments and slopes are beyond all doubt of great magnificence. An accurate evaluation on the stability of embankments and slopes can accelerate the engineering construction, reduce expenses, as well as guarantee a normal life-span of embankments. It is also of meaning for being a reference for any other constructions in silt areas in the northwest of Anhui Province. In the present work, to evaluate the stability of the embankments and slopes of BoFu expressway, and to explore what factors affect the stability, a large number of necessary parameters had been obtained by a series of tests on engineering, physical, and water-physical properties. Base on that, a rigid limit equilibrium analysis was applied and a static mathematical model was set up to simulate and then calculate the safety coefficient of the stability of embankments and slopes. The obtained simulation and calculation results are carefully compared with the actually observed experiments, and the final results indicate that the embankments and slopes of BoFu expressway are basically stable and reliable. |
