The main work of this paper is focused on the study of 500kV controllable magnetic-saturation reactor'electric characteristic and protection. Firstly, the basic structure and work principle of controllable magnetic-saturation reactor were introduced, in order to reduce the harmonic of reactor, a new harmonic suppression way is put forward. Through building a simulation model based on RTDS and PSCAD, this paper studied the control-characteristic of reactor and analyzed its fault types, also, its trigger system was studied. Then the protection scheme was fixed and its principle was analyzed. In order to protect turn-to-turn fault of secondary series reactor, the paper proposes its protection scheme, and analyses its work principle. Finally, the protection domain and sensitivity of each protection proved to meet the requirement of the standard.
