Boiler feed pump is one of the most important auxiliary equipments in thermal power plant ,the two main driving modes of feed pumps are motor-driven mode and steam-driven mode in China power stations, the comparison of which has always been disputed. This paper investigated the two driving modes'running situation and collocation standard, besides integrated analysis of different driving method, figured out a more economical option. Also, by taking into accounts of many different factors, we summarized the former methods of economic comparison, analyzed their problem of unilateralism and difficulty, introduced the definition of relative efficiency of pump work and its theoretical calculation method which simplified the calculate process. Eventually we come out a comprehensive and convenient calculation method.By taking the 300MW,600MW units as comparison examples with proceeding the method of technical and economical analysis, we got the conclusion that steam-driven mode has a higher thermal economic than motor-driven mode, but we should consider each individual condition when decision is to be made.
