The vortex pump's structure is simple and compact, and it is widely used in family as well as many departments of National Economy. At present, the main problem of vortex pump is inefficient. Starting from the vane shape that affect efficiency of vortex pump, this paper studied the affections of different vane shapes on vortex pump's inner flow status and energy performance. A best vane shape was achieved at last.By applying computational fluid dynamics software package FLUENT to simulate the inner flow of vortex pump, this paper carried out the performance test of vortex pump with different shape vanes. The research and main achievements this paper gained were:1. Briefly introduced the development and research situation of vortex pump, and put forward the meaning and main content of paper.2. The work principle and inner flow theory of vortex pump were introduced, moreover, the impeller design method and academic compute method were given.3. PRO/ENGINEER software was applied to design the flowing region of vortex pump. Several grid generation techniques were introduced, and the hydraulics software GAMBIT was used to generate unstructured grid of flowing region.4. N-S equation and RNG k-εturbulence model were used to calculate the inner flow of vortex pump with different shape vanes. Through the numerical simulation, we can study the internal flow law of vortex pump, and learn the pressure and velocity distribution.5. A performance testing was carried out on a vortex pump that used different shape vanes, and the affections of different vane shape on energy performance of vortex pump has been studied.6. By comparing simulation results and experimental data, these results were consistent. So the viewpoint that using forward-corner vane in vortex pump is more efficient was achieved, which provided important theoretical basis for the perfect of design method of vortex pump and the further research work.
