A new technology of Automotive Industry, Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), which having characteristics of low pollution and low fuel consumption, just becomes an international and national focus. Drive Motor being a main department of HEV, plays an important part in HEV development. So research and analysis on Drive Motor have a great significance. Brushless DC Motor is high work efficiency, big power density and speeds regulation easily. So it becomes the first choice for HEV drive motor.Based on DSP for hybrid electric vehicle, control system of BLDCM will be studied mainly. Four parts are included in the paper as follows:Firstly, the control system of some common motor is analyzed, combined with the requirement of HEV driver. The advantage of the BLDCM as the drive motor of the HEV is pointed out.Secondly, a simulation model of brusless DC motor for HEV based on BLDC principle is established and its good operation performance is proved by simulation. Also, the subsystems are introduced in detail in the paper. The reasonability and validity have been testified by the simulation results.According to intensive analysis of the zero-crossing detection of Back EMF, test methods are analyzed theoretically. The advantages and disadvantages of detecting methods for the zero-crossings of Back EMF are compared and their application conditions are analyzed.Lastly, a drive including hardware and software is designed and implemented for a BLDCM without rotor position sensors. The experiment is carried out with investigated methods andmatters on the drive and the experimental results are presented.
