Aseismic Studies On Staggered Truss Frame System

The staggered truss system is a new concept in structural steel framing for buildings. The system consists of a series of story-high trusses spanning the total width between two rows of exterior columns and arranged in a staggered pattern on adjacent column lines. The system was developed to achieve a more efficient structural frame to resist lateral loads and at the same time provide versatility of floor layout with large column-free areas.It has been applied abroad more and more widely in recent years. It is well known that China is a country with much active earthquake. So it is of significance and value to study the seismic behavior.In this paper, we'll analyze former research results systematicly and scientificly, absorb their excellences, explore the earthquake-resistance capability of staggered steel truss system. This article not only builded up two 3-D models on staggered steel truss system by ETABS, a 6-floors building and a 12-floors, but also distinguish the differences between the fall-to-ground struss and not fall-to-ground one; what's more, analisised the structures of different models affected by earthquake.Aftering compared the dynamic characteristics and dynamic response with these models by response spectrum and elasticity time interval methond, this article shows that the bottom of the model is weak, either the 6-floors model or the 12-floors model.The major point of this paper is to analysis the structure by PUSHOVER, to investigate staggered struss system on the bearing capacity, distortion and the rule of plastic hinge affected by different trusses and earthquake-resistance structure. It is suggested that truss should be optimized and the bottom of the structure should be strengthened.As the earthquake-resistance capability of staggered steel truss system is excellent, the author finds it necessary to promote it widely.
