Passenger carriage is one of the major facilities for railway passenger transportation. Improving passenger carriage utilization efficiency not only increases the volume of the passenger traffic, but also makes the utilization carriage quantity reduction, and cutting back the production costs. In addition, it can abate the tense work in rail station, so it has a wide practical significance. Passenger carriage has two types: current traditional carriage and motor train-set, this paper is divided into two parts to analyze separately according to it.This paper analyzes main factors that influencing passenger carriage utilization efficiency from both subjectivity and objectivity firstly, then introduces detail every operating statistical index based on its original definition, the logical communication among these indexes through their calculation formula is found out. The key of improving passenger carriage utilization efficiency is reducing detention time in rail station. However, lower detention time isn't meaning fewer passenger carriage quantities needed because of the regular starting-time of passenger train in our country. So this paper analyzes the communication between the detention time and carriage quantities needed according to long-distance train running once a day and short-distance train running twice a day. Consulting predecessors' achievements, the methods about passenger carriage utilization optimized are summed up.On the researches about motor train-set operation, this paper tries to find the feasibility about improving utilization efficiency from operation method mainly. Motor train-set is the more advanced passenger carriage running in high-speed line, making draw power and carriages in group, which makes its operation more flexible. Restrained section and unrestrained section are the two methods of motor train-set operation. Comparing of the two methods and through practical experience from abroad, it is considered generally that unrestrained section operation adjusts to our country's practical situation better, which can improve motor train-set utilization efficiency much more. This paper emphatically points out the whole process and restrained factors about unrestrained section operation of motor train-set, some new operation statistical indexes and calculation formulas different from current passenger carriage are proposed, which has some certain reference meanings.
