The former historic district of Qing Dynasty Post Office is one of the better preserved historic districts in the former French concession in Tianjin. It has a long-time historic and cultural tradition. But with radical changes of urban space and other reasons, it now has gradually fallen into a decline. Nowadays, with the fast developing of Tianjin city, renovation and development of this area becomes a matter of great urgency.Taking the former historic district of Qing Dynasty Post Office as the research object, this paper first introduces the process and practice of historic districts in our country and other countries and analyzes current research in the country. Then it looks back on the history of the district, including the former French concession's history, the development process of the district and the introduction of the important historic buildings in the district. Based on that, the paper analyses the current situation, finds out the problems and the resource in this area, points out the opportunity and the challenge that the district will face. Then the paper introduces the theory of Space Syntax, Figure and Ground, and analyzes the space of the district under them. Finally strategies of organic renovation and sustainable development are put forward, and the idea of the renovation on the whole historic area is explored. At the end of the paper, the author gives some advice for the particular work of the development of the district and alike.
