Lots of achievements had been obtained that of study on special-shaped columns whose ratio between sections height with width is not beyond 4 and its structures. The theoretical research and engineering application become more and more sophisticated. In this paper, L-shaped section broad-limb columns whose ratio is from 4 to 5 that are between special-shaped columns'and short-leg shear walls'have been studied. In this paper, through the low cyclic loading experiments on 11 L-shaped section broad-limb columns, its'shear failure property were analyzed and shear strength and aseismic behavior were studied. The results indicated that: The moment-shear diagonal crack appeared in the shear process and the members'failure is shear-press failure mostly finally because of the shear span ratio that is from 2.9 to 3.7. The members'brittleness will rise with ratio of its section height to width increasing in the process of shear failure. L-shaped section broad-limb columns have higher shear strength and better or same ductility performance with oblique loads that of axial. If the axial shear strength and ductility were satisfied, that of the oblique will be satisfied. The embedded column with proper bar would reinforce members'shear and aseismic performance. The shear strength of L-shaped section broad-limb columns that is corner columns will fall down in shear and torsion with seismic load. In this paper, that was thought in the designing fomula for shear strength of L-shaped section broad-limb with semiempirical combined lower limit-side method. The fomula's reliability and applicability were verified with calculation test.
