Analysis On Protection & Usage Of Modern Outstanding Industrial Heritage In Tianjin

As a coastal city opening up earlier to the outside world, Tianjin, from early on, wasinfluenced and nurtured by industrial civilizations. From "Westernization Movement"to "Northern New Deal", from World Warâ… to Republic of China, then finally to thefounding of the People's Republic of China, Tianjin has developed itself into animportant industrial and commercial metropolis in Northern China. Sustainable andrapid urbanization process accelerated Tianjin's economic growth and environmentalimprovement. However, we also witnessed inevitable removal and abandonment ofprecious industrial heritage.Based on detailed investigation, this article sketched out a current outstandingindustrial heritage map of Tianjin, then used it as evidence to elaborate thecharacteristics, value, importance and urgency of protection, methods of protectionand usage, principal analysis of transformation and usage for Tianjin's outstandingindustrial heritage. As a reference, the author also introduced some successful casesand research topics from both home and abroad. Finally, the author gave his ownsuggestions concerning emerging problems in protection, transformation and usage ofTianjin's industrial heritage.With further development of Tianjin's economy in the next dozen or even severaldecades, the protection and transformation of old industrial heritage will be alarge-scale activity. It is of vital importance for Tianjin's urban construction anddevelopment and deserves sustained and in-depth research. But at the same time, weshould notice that the protection and usage of industrial heritage is an interdisciplinaryinvolving politics, economy and culture, etc. Therefore, unless all those areas aretargeted for in-depth study, can Tianjin achieve all-round and healthy development.
