The full-mission marine simulator plays an important role in fostering the seafarers; it has become one of the most effective measures in marine education. The international convention of STCW stipulates that the seafarers must go through a certain period of simulator training before obtaining a certificate of competency. However, the full-mission marine simulator can not meet the needs of the growing student number in the maritime universities and training institutions because of the limited amount, the expensive developing cost and fixed-site training. In recent years, with the popularization of personal computer and the rapid development of network technology, almost all maritime schools have built the high-speed intranet, at the same time the majority of the students has owned their own personal computer. These infrastructures make the web-based distributed simulation more feasible. Web-based simulation has attracted more and more attention and a great deal of system of web-based simulation has been built in many fields. But there is little research in the marine field. This thesis does researching and discussing in this aspect.Based on the research on the traditional full-mission marine simulator developed by the Nautical Science and Technology Institute of DaLian Maritime University, author studies the implement mothod of web-based simulation, studies the ActiveX control technology, the server technology and the multi-thread technology, in order to transplant the full-misson marine simulator which is limited in a fixed room to the web and make it accessable anywhere anytime. This thtesis adopted the "three-tier" architecture which combines B/S and C/S. The server includes the IIS server and Simulation server, IIS server is used to distribute the resource and the Simulation server is used to handle the client's request. A thread pool is constructed at the Simulation server in order to respond to the client's request rapidly. The DBMS adopts ACCESS and ADO is used to accesss the database. In order to make the transplant easier, the Document/View structure of MFC is introduced to the ActiveX control with the help of multi-thread technology in the client. On the basis of above reseaching work, the author designs the framework of the training system of web-based marine simulation and implements a part of functions. With the help of this system, students can connect to the intranet or the Internet using personal computers at any time to finish self-training in lots of subjects such as ship maneuver, Radar / ARPA, ECDIS.
