The numerical methods have been used to deal with the problems of electromagnetic field. In which, finite element method (FEM) and finite difference method (FDM) are applied frequently.Finite volume method (FVM) is a class of discretization schemes that proven highly successful in approximating the solution of a wide variety of conservation law systems, which is extensively used in fluid mechanics, semi-conductor, device simulation and many other engineering areas, In recent years, FVM solving problems with the electromagnetic field has been proposed to simulate the real physical fields. With this method not only the discrete technology of FDM is adopted, but also the flexibility of finite element grid is inherited. The primary advantages of this method are numerical robustness through its discrete principles, applicability on very general unstructured meshes, and the intrinsic local conservation properties of the resulting schemes. Because of these outstanding characteristics, solving electromagnetic field problems by FVM has been developed quickly. In view of to these characteristics, distribution of magnetic field in air gap, cogging and slot has been studied by using FVM when the motor is in no-load operation. Besides, this paper describes an induction motor problem in which the eddy currents in the rotor are induced both by time harmonic currents on the stator and by the rotation of the rotor. This system of ordinary differential form can be marched forward using a variety of explicit and implicit time integration method. The results of the induction motor problem are compared with international TEAM workshop problem P30, the analysis results validates that FVM is suitable for such problems. The calculation examples in this paper are computed by using the language of Fortran90, and programming under the integrated development environment of the Fortran Power Station4.0.
