Refrigeration system includes lots of equipments and piping parts. There is no specialized CAD to support the rapid design in whole process since the complex process and high specialty. As a result, the design efficiency and innovation is slowed down.The problems existing in the process of refrigeration system design are analyzed. The development trend of CAD (Computer Aided Design) and the implementation requirements for specialized CAD in refrigeration industry are discussed. Based on the above study, the function needs for CAD software system are summarized.The conception of intelligent design system for refrigeration system is brought forward based on the study of intelligent design method. Rule-based equipment selection technology is studied. The calculation and configuration rules are defined according to expression and storage of knowledge, which can improve equipment selection efficiency and knowledge reusability.According to the cases selection mode in product design process, case based design technology is adopted to design project scheme. Features are extracted and information model is established. Case expression and storage for refrigeration engineering is selected, and case database is designed based on it. Finally, the function model of CBR (Case Based Reasoning) for refrigeration engineering is defined, which speeds up the scheme's design process.In order to solve the practical problems in refrigeration industry with 2D graphics platform, the method of integrated design of engineering drawings is brought forward. Multi-views information model for refrigeration resource is established, and a practical tool is developed based on it. The technology can be well applied into case revise section in refrigeration engineering CBR system, which enriches its functions.Through analyzing the design work flow of refrigeration engineering and implementation requirements, the method of design and development for the intelligent design system is studied. The function model is set up and the system is developed with AutoCAD 2006 platform, VBA (Visual Basic for Application) and database technology. The system has been applied into practical project in refrigeration enterprise, and the result has been proved well.
