In this paper, the static and the dynamic analysis of a frame of a dump truck (Model: CDW3100) under various operating conditions were carried out using a general finite element analysis software NX.Nastran in order to find the problems of the frame. Because of disfigurement on frame design, fatigue cracks appear on the frame after working in scurviness conditions within three to five months. A model analysis was subsequently conducted to verify the result obtained from the static stress analysis. The result of the analysis figured out the reasons of the crack in the dump truck frame. Some suggestions were also presented to help further modification of the frame, which could improve its performance.At first, a summary on the finite element analysis of the vehicle's frame was presented. And the finite element model of the dump truck frame was realistically constructed. In this paper the pre/post processing software of NX.Nastran and the finite element software of NX.Nastran were used in the strength and modal analysis of the dump truck frame. The load acting on the dump truck and the method of applying the load to the finite element model of the frame were extensively discussed. Then, the strengths of the frame under four typical operating conditions were calculated. the modal frequency and the modal shapes were obtained, then, the results of the calculation were contrasted with that of the experiment. Through detail analysis of the results, the reasons of the crack in the primitive frame were found out; the dynamic property of the frame was known.At last, fatigue analysis for the shackle of the rear leaf spring was carried out. The shackle was considered as the dangerous component according to results of the static stress calculation. A comparison of fatigue life expectancy between the original shackle and the reformed one was presented, which could be part of the guide for further improvement of the frame on the dump truck.
