Motorcycle consists mostly of engine, conveying system, Movement system, electric system, and instrumented system etc. Frame is the main part of the motorcycle. It is a complex 3D spatial structure. As the principal framework of motorcycle, the frame turns all parts of a motorcycle into an integral whole only by it organically connecting all parts such as engine, conveying device, cradle, brake system, steering device and wheel, and brings all parts of a motorcycle into the most efficacy.Following the scarcity of the energy and the pollution of the environment in the world becoming seriously day by day, the inquiries of the application on a new material and saving energy and reduce greenhouse gas emission have become a focal point in the research field. It can realize the objection of saving energy and reduce greenhouse gas emission that applying the material of magnesium alloy to components and parts so as to make a motorcycle weight reductions.The research work mentioned in this paper is a practical project named The Application of Magnesium Alloy on Motorcycle of the Experimental Center of mechanical department of Jilin University, which is cooperated with Changchun FAW Foundry Company Ltd. Technology Center. The task is the intensity analysis of motorcycle frame of magnesium alloy. Taking the microcomputer as the hardware platform, using software named PRO/E and HyperMesh, a finite element model of a ZK61A-T6 motorcycle frame of the magnesium alloy was set up. static strength analysis under various operating modes using finite element analysis software ALGOR were done.In chapter 1, the domestic and foreign research status quo of applying the magnesium alloy into the motorcycle industry as well as the motorcycle dummy specimen technology are investigated. Simultaneously, knowing the magnesium alloy roundly on the basis of reading massive literature. The contents and the research methods of this paper are outlined.In chapter 2, the specific structure demand , the particular the strength and rigidity requirements of a motorcycle frame are introduced.In chapter 3, the basic principals and analysis step of FEM are elaborated. Besides, the modeling and analysis software PRO/E, HyperMesh and ALGOR applied in this paper are clarified .In chapter 4, the process of established of an analytical finite element model for the frame and the details and methods of modeling in every steps are discussed in order to provide the earlier period preparatory work for could analyze the frame intensity to correctly. At the same time, by the software named Hyper Mesh, according to the mesh grid principals of the finite element , a more detailed finite element model about a motorcycle frame of magnesium alloy are established.In chapter 5, based on the software used to finite element analysis named ALGOR, the intensity of aluminum alloy motorcycle frame and magnesium alloy motorcycle frame is simulation studied one after another.. the result showed the substitution of the magnesium alloy because it absolutely can satisfy the intensity request when we substitutes the aluminum alloy manufacture motorcycle frame with the magnesium alloy.The significances of this paper are:Firstly, based on the study in this paper, general process of analyzing the static strength of a motorcycle frame of magnesium alloy using finite element software ALGOR, the experiences of the finite element analysis method applied to the part which consists of a lot of components was summarized and provided other people some useful experience.Secondly, the application of the new material to the motorcycle spare parts ,such as magnesium alloy in this paper, can improve economical performance under the premise that it can guarantee the intensity requirements, simultaneously, all have the vital significance to the motorcycle lightweight and the efficiency , furthermore build the foundation for enhancing the motorcycle the security and comfortableness and realizing computer assistance analysis and the design on the motorcycle frame.
