As the framework of electric motorcycle, the frame is the main core component. Itholds and supports the motor and transmission system, suspension system, operationsystem and other related components. Besides, it sustains the impact load and vibrationfrom the road during driving. The quality of the structural strength, stiffness andinherent characteristics of the frame decides the lifetime and comfort, which are themost important index of frame design. Thus, doing research on the frame stiffnessanalysis and optimization provides important practical guid and significant engineeringvalue to the study of battery-operated motorcycle model, and to improve the stabilityand comfort. It contributes to the realization of lightening the motorcycle weight aswell.In this article, the combination of finite element analysis and strain testingexperiment is used to analyze and optimize the frame. The best size is obtained underthe design requirement. The following works and achievements have beenaccomplished:①Taking a certain type of electric motorcycle frame as an example, using Pro/Esoftware to build the frame3-D geometry model; based on the HyperMesh platform,analyze the characteristics of frame structure in detail, select the appropriate elementtype, constraint condition and loading mode, establish the finite element model ofelectric motorcycle frame.②Based on the finite element model Modal analysis of the frame is analyzed,which obtained the natural frequencies of frame and natural modes by Block Lanczosmethod; then analyze the road excitation of electric motorcycle, the results shows thatthe levels of road irregularity excitation will not cause frame resonance.③Stess distribution and the acceleration vibration of key parts are obtained andthe weak links and the surplus stiffness parts are identified in the frame structurethrough the static and dynamic analysis under the working condition, which based onthe theory of statics and dynamics; the accuracy of the finite element modal is verifiedby strain measurement test,which provides a theoretical basis for the optimizationdesign of the frame structure.④On the basis of the optimization theory, the optimization mathematical modalof the frame is established by OptiStruct solver, which use the quality of the frame as the objective optimization, the structure strength as constraint conditions and the size ofpipe section as design variable. The result shows that the weight of frame is reduced by10.93%after optimization.
