There are many carrying capacity evaluation methods for the reinforced concrete beam bridge. Among them load test method is the most popular method. However, it is time-consuming, laboursome and expensive. In addition, it is very difficult to keep the express highway and main road closed when the test is operated. Based on nondestructive examination data, this paper discusses a method which can partly or completely replace the load test and evaluates a reinforced concrete bridge by finite element analysis using ANSYS.The main contents and conclusions in this paper are as follows:Firstly, the theory of nonlinear finite element has been studied and Solid65 element is discussed in theory. In addition, the author has deduced the elemental stiffness matrix and the system stiffness matrix, and then some influencing parameters are gained during the process of simulation.Secondly, a parameter determining method has been proposed with the simulation results by ANSYS based on the analysis of RC beam test. A proportional loading test has been simulated by ANSYS to obtain the deflection and strain of a reinforced concrete beam. By comparing the simulation data with the test data, the results show that strains are very similar while deflections are greatly different. Some factors which affect the stiffness of the beam have been analyzed. We can find that the strength of the concrete and the area of the reinforcement are of greater influence than other factors. As a result, a parameter determining method has been proposed: the process has been divided by different sections, during which different parameters are used respectively. Based on the damage of the reinforced concrete, structural strength decrease coefficient and increase coefficient can be determined. The results can be relatively accurate in the structural elastic phase. Finally, simulation has been conducted by using the presented method of parameter-determining and the results agree with the load test data well. It is validated that using finite element analysis software to simulate load test is feasible.
