With the fast development of the Transportation Industry, it becomes an important issue that How to examine and maintain roads scientificly. The Intelligent Falling-Weight Deflectometer is an advanced deflector test instrument. This paper develops the control system of the Falling-Weight Deflectometer, which directs the deflectometer to excute a series of mechanical motions and to collect various necessary data in time.This paper takes synthetical study and analysis on the principium and function of the deflectometer. According to the principle of practicability, reliability and extensibility, the paper brings forward a system solution based on the ARM processor and embedded real-time operating system. First of all, we discuss the system hardware design, including the schematic circuit design and debugging technique on power supply unit, processor unit, data collecting unit, memory unit, controlling unit, and communication unit, some essential points in PCB design are also discussed. Secondly, we introduced the firmware design, including two different ways: one is based on foreground/background system, the other is based on embedded system. Then, we analyze the software structure of the upper computer, and take examples to describe the functions of the software. After total design completed, the paper takes some performance test on the controlling system as well as doing some research on the calibration of deflectometer. Finally, we summarize the problems we encountered in the progress of product development, and put forward several improvement plans.Our Intelligent Falling-Weight Deflectometer has passed the domestic experts' appraisal, has obtained the utility model patent, and has begun the production and the sale. After the unceasing improvement, the deflectiometer controlling system has achieved the design goal both in the performance and the function, and showed high stability and reliability in the long-term working process.
