Dynamic characteristics of the flexible rotor magnetic bearing system with damper are studied in the paper. The digital control hardware and software based on the DSP are developed for the system. The main contents are as follows:First, the mechanical structure and parameters of the experiment setup are introduced. The displacement sensors and power amplifier are developed and validated for the system. The Finite Element Method is adopted to analyze the natural frequencies and the modal shapes of the rotor.Secondly, the digital control hardware and software based on the DSP (TMS320LF2407A) are developed for the system. The PID control algorithm and fuzzy self-adjusting PID control algorithm are discussed by the Matlab/Simulink.Finally, the dynamic characteristic of the system with damper is studied by the Experimental Modal Analysis and actual operation of the experiment setup. Both the theoretical analysis and the experimental results show that the damper can support enough additional damp and is helpful for the system to get across the second bending critical speed safely, and operate on 18,000 rotations per minute.
