Navigation refers to the guidance of ships or airplanes from place to place, that is, it ensures the safe movement of a transporter from one place to another. With the development of science and technology, navigation has developed to provide accurate navigating and positioning information for the transporter and the various systems equipped inside, such as systems of measurement, weapons and surveillance. For ships, it controls the direction and track of a ship and achieves the dynamic positioning of a ship.Navigation precision has been a hot topic in the field of ship navigation. Much research work has been conducted to improve the navigation precision with the use of computer technology and algorithm. This paper uses the ECDIS as a platform to study the auxiliary navigation system based on the current data of ocean environment to improve the ship position precision and reduce the influence of ocean current. First, this paper introduces the key technology of ship navigation and presents a detailed explanation of the principles, functions and components of a ship navigation system, especially the dead reckoning navigation technology. The main characteristics and functions of ECDIS are also introduced. Second, this paper summarizes the causes, classification and measuring methods of ocean currents and analyzes the influence of ocean currents on the track of a ship based on the measured data of year-round ocean currents. An experimental simulation has been made. Finally, the dead reckoning algorithms are studied based on the ECDIS platform and the state and observation equation are established. Using Kalman filtering technology an integration filtering of ship track and current data is made and a method of reducing the influence of currents on the dead reckoning is proposed. The measured data and algorithm simulation analysis shows that this method can not only provide precise navigation information for ships but also ensures the feasibility and effectiveness.
