With the development of science and technology, structure vibration control is animportant research field due to its urgent application need in actual engineeringstructures. Active vibration control has received considerable attention in recent yearsbecause of its excellent advantages. This dissertation gives an investigation on activevibration control of a rectangular cantilever plate, especially on the two mostimportant aspects: optimal location of piezoelectric sensors/actuators and vibrationcontrol algorithm.Firstly, the motion equation of a rectangular cantilever plate described in ClassicalThin Plate Theory is presented as a basic formula. Linking up with beknownpiezoelectric sensor equation and the actuator equation, a modal control equation instate space is obtained by deducing and reshaping the basic formula. Thus, the controlsystem mode is set up. Secondly, based on W.Gawronski's research results aboutoptimal location of piezoelectric sensors and actuators, a H2-norm matrix isconstructed by utilizing the modal control equation. According to this matrix, an indexis given that serves as a method optimizing the locations of the sensors/actuators.Finally, a control algorithm conbining PPF(positive position feedback) andPD(proportional -derivative) is analyzed. In order to verify the effectiveness of thecontrol algorithm and the correctness of the location optimization of the piezoelectricsensors/actuators, control simulations are carried out with a piezoelectric smartrectangular cantilever plate. The results show that the control algorithm and themethod of location optimization is feasible and effective.
