Our country is very extensive,climatic condition, construction material and technology, economy and other factors are different in each region. Only relying on specifications for design of highway asphalt pavement cannot meet the actual requirement of each region, which makes design of pavement structure exist defects. Design for asphalt pavement typical structure could combine with actual condition of each region very well and propose reasonable pavement structure and thickness, which could improve the using age of asphalt pavement.In this paper, a lot of investigations for asphalt pavement of Shandong province had been made, varieties and causes of the distress had been analyzed, and traffic volume composition had been collected widely, by which prediction method of axle load spectrum of design section was got. According to the same effect principle which caused approximately for thickness of pavement base and subbase by earth subgrade of different grades and traffic volume, the traffic volume of expressway of Shandong province and and the strength of earth subgrade was divided. Value range of material design parameter was got by the test of asphalt mix and inorganic binder of Shandong province. Reasonable pavement structure and material selection were proposed referring to using actuality of asphalt pavement of various base types at home and abroad. The structural combinations suitable for the expressway of Shandong province were recommended combined with the actual condition of Shandong province.On the base of the research of the causes of pavement distress, traffic volume grade, earth subgrade strength grade and pavement material parameter, typical asphalt pavement structure suitable for Shandong province with semi-rigid base, flexible base, rigid base and combined were recommended. The typical structures can give reference for design, which avoid casualness and blindness and improve the using age of asphalt pavement.
