Having excellent performance characteristics, the asphalt mixture is commonly used byour high-grade road as the main structure. At the same time, with the rapid growth ofhigh-speed development of the national economy and passenger and cargo traffic, heavyloaded and overloaded vehicles of road transport increase rapidly. That exacerbates the earlydestruction of the asphalt pavement and seriously shortens the pavement life and serviceperformance..This article carries out site investigations and damage cause analysis on sevenexpressways and10national and provincial coal-transporting heavy-load trunk highways inShanxi Province. Through analyzing the reasons of the damage, it concludes the main damagestyles together with their reasons of coal-transporting heavy-load highway’s asphalt pavementin Shanxi Province. The supports of data were provided to put forward and optimize thetypical structure of heavy traffic asphalt pavement, and to select the material grade ofheavy-duty asphalt mixtures. Finite element analysis software has been applied to semi-rigidasphalt pavement structure, hybrid base pavement structure, flexible base pavement structureand composite pavement structure in Shanxi Province. The mechanical characteristics areanalyzed on the four typical structures under heavy-load and overload traffic conditions. Theforce infections of the mixed base asphalt pavement structure are analyzed by cementstabilized macadam base modulus, cement stabilized macadam base thickness, asphalt treatedbase modulus, asphalt treated base thickness and subgrade modulus. And the impacts arestudied on the temperature to the mechanical parameters of asphalt pavement. The resultsshow that the mixed base asphalt pavement structure and the flexible base asphalt pavement ismore suitable for Shanxi Province’s heavy traffic highways for its better stress status. Andasphalt material should be modified in high temperature area. Using a high modulus is aneffective method to enhance the modified asphalt mixture of high temperature stability.This paper divides the asphalt pavement structure design of the heavy-load traffic intothe structure combination design stage of heavy-load traffic asphalt pavement, the layerthickness combination design stage of heavy-load traffic asphalt pavement, the materialdesign stage of heavy-load traffic asphalt pavement and the output the design result stage. Thearticle proposes the corresponding method for the design index and standards andrecommends a combined program of the typical thickness of hybrid base pavement whichmeets the heavy traffic.According to the structure of heavy-load highway’s asphalt pavement, the components and mixing amount of high viscosity modified asphalt which meets the heavy-load trafficperformance are determined through the experimental research, and meet the demand of itstechnical requirements. The study shows that the dynamic stability of HVMA high viscositymodified asphalt mixture is largest and the rutting resistance is best by comparative analysesto5%SBS modified asphalt, HVMA high viscosity modified asphalt and RST high viscositymodified asphalt mixture in the same temperature conditions.On the basis of the research results, Jin-Ji Expressway test road was built, and the latefollow-up observations and evaluation show that the increase of the surface layer, thegrassroots and sub-base thickness can effectively reduce the pavement surface deflection andpavement cracks. The crack resistance of hybrid base pavement structure is better than thesemi-rigid asphalt pavement structure. high viscosity modified asphalt which is developed isapplied to the longitudinal sections of Hunyuan-Datong. The study indicates thathigh-viscosity modified asphalt has the excellent performance used in heavy traffic asphaltpavement, and on-site processing and the construction technology of high-viscosity modifiedasphalt mixture is reasonable, and the high-viscosity modified asphalt has significant costadvantages.
